When I wander, I am sometimes ’struck’ by something - a brief shock that connects me to something immense and undefined. It is extremely brief. And direct.  It doesn't come from seeking. It comes out of nowhere. Successful images for me are those that, after the moment has passed  (days and years) still contain some degree of the direct and instantaneous experience that occasioned pressing the shutter in that  moment.

Most of my images do not accomplish this. Many of them appear to be composed. As I walk, I walk past instances that are moments of mere compositions. I have trained myself to keep from being seduced by style.  My images must be devoid of symbol and metaphor - as much as possible - in order to keep them from being understood as any kind of expression. I have no interest in expression.
